1990 CE 24 Electric Blue
Serial 2559
Early CE24 with a solid alder body in ‘Electric Blue’. Serial # 072559. ‘0’ = 1990 ‘7’ = CE model ‘2559’ = serial number. This is quickly becoming a historic pre-factory example, being one of the first 7% of CE’s made. All original pickups and wiring are untampered with. Vintage Bass in the neck and HFS in the bridge, controlled with a 5-way switch. These are the same pickups that were put in the Custom 24. A PRS ‘Special’ of the same vintage had a single-coil pickup in the neck position which looked like a double-coil, but one of the coils was there for appearance only. Solid alder body. Wide thin neck. You can see the markings in the bridge pickup cavity – the serial number, ‘EB’ for Electric Blue, and ‘WT’ for Wide-Thin. All the features of the early PRS’s: Real abalone fret markers. Original winged tuners. Small neck heel. One-piece high-mass Milcom bridge with nickel-plated brass saddles. There is some noticeable fretwear, but there’s plenty of life left in these frets. The back of the neck has a dark-tint nitro factory finish in excellent condition. There are a few small dings, and some buckle wear on the back, but overall, I would still rate it an 8.5 – 9.0. No tarnishing on the bridge. I realise a lot of the PRS collectors want only mint examples. This is not for you. But it’s not a $3,000 Custom either. And it’s now a 20-year-old guitar. It’s a player’s guitar but with historical significance. The demand for the tonal properties of these early alder CE’s has led to PRS re-issuing the CE line with alder bodies. Except that you would pay $2,200 + for a new one. The Official Vintage Guitar Price Guide (2008) puts a 1988-1991 CE24 with a rosewood board at a range of $1,600 to $2,000. Here’s a rare chance to get an early, low serial number, pre-factory 24 at a reasonable price. Comes with trem arm and original case with case keys.
