The auction is for my 1998 PRS McCarty Archtop II with birds and ten top. The guitar is Serial Number 8 39183.
If you are considering purchase of this guitar, then you probably already know something about it (and how pretty cool it is). As discussed at the PRS web site, the McCarty Archtop II was in production from 1998-2001 and includes a carved maple top and back with mahogany sides and rosewood headstock veneer. It is a thick guitar (approximately 4" at bridge and 2 3/4" at rim), and has a 22-fret wide-fat mahogany neck with a rosewood fretboard. The Archtop II has an adjustable stoptail bridge and McCarty Archtop pickups with a 3-way toggle. This guitar sings and plays like butter.
The guitar is beautifully finished and in excellent condition. The top flaming is gorgeous and the finish on the back has striping with a cool three-dimensional folding quality to it. There is very little observable finish wear and the neck and frets are in excellent shape.
There is minimal plating wear at a spot near the topmost edge of the bridge pick-up and there is a small hidden ding at the rear of rightmost edge of the body --- I have uploaded photos with me pointing to both of these.
I am the original owner of the guitar and have treated this guitar with love. Unfortuntately for me (and good for you), it has spent much of its life not being played. I played it when I first got it for about 3 years (about 5 hours a week), and it has spent most of the last decade in its case. With a day job, a mortgage, and a baby, it doesn't make sense for me to keep this guitar away from someone who will play it.
When it was played, it was mostly a Jazz fusion/jamband style of playing (through a Rivera Quiana 212 50 Watt combo, which is also on sale). I was able to alternate between a clean Pat Metheny jazz tone and a gritty John Scofield funk. It is also great for that "creamy" Allman Brothers or Santana sound. I am a big fan off Phish and those sustained "Divided Sky" notes that slowly transition into controlled harmonics, and I was able to pull this off with this guitar when desired.
Payment is due by PayPal at auction close and/or upon Buy it Now.
If you are thinking about getting this guitar for someone for Christmas, they are going to be very happy!
I have only positive feedback, and it is really important to me that I keep it that way. If there is any information I can provide, please do not hesitate to ask by sending an e-mail to halpern5@optonline.net.
